Litton EOS of the US advises of key advancements that differentiate Gen IV from Gen III include the removal of an ion-barrier film from the image intensifier tube's microchannel plate and the addition of a gated power supply. (Gen IV sometimes is referred to as "filmless" technology).
These changes have resulted in significantly higher signal-to-noise ratio, superior high light resolution and dramatically reduced halo. With these improvements, the user will see greater detail across a wider range of night light conditions.
